Position
Absolute position
When you want objects to sit in a specific position of the page
By default, objects will have absolute position when you click, and drag a defined rectangle when adding objects to your page or region.
For absolute positioned objects, property dialogs will enable you to control the position and dimensions using millimetric values.

If you right-clik an ABSOLUTE positioned object, popup-menu item FLOW will not be checked.
Note the FLOW menu item not being checked.
Z-Order
Visual stack
Absolute positioned objects can be stacked, or placed on top of each other. This can be used to create desried visual or modal overlapping.
Control the display order of absolute positioned objects with Order -> Send to.. popup-menu items.
Paged media output When mixing ABSOLUTE and FLOW positioned objects in a document template, bear in mind that the Z-order on absoloute positioned objects will be affected by the overall z-order of output elements. This dictates on which page the absolute positioned objects will be output.
